Disaster preparedness and response plan for safe drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley consisted of up-gradation of deep tube-wells and make them ready for emergency operation with generator back ups, fuels and storage systems.
The up-gradation and improvements were done for KUKL – Jwagal, UN Park, KUKL – Balkumari, IOE – Pulchowk Campus, NARC – Khumaltar and Department of Irrigation – Jawalakhel. The project activities consisted of:
· Earthquake resistant buildings
· Supply and installation of Generators for deep-tube well pumps
· Sanitation development at project sites
· Site development works
· Up-gradation of deep-tube well and submersible pumps and booster pumps
· Electric works and generator installations
· Pumping main pipes and pipe line installation
· Water treatment plant of 30m3/hr capacity
· Water reservoir tanks
· Rainwater harvesting system etc.
